SOCIAL AUXILIARY WORK NQF LEVEL 4 (23993)

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Leaners must possess at least a Grade 10 or equivalent certificate or an NQF Level 3 qualification.

PURPOSE OF THE QUALIFICATION Basic knowledge and understanding of the South African context within which social services function and are delivered.  Understanding of social development in terms of the needs, policies and the role of the social auxiliary worker.  Basic knowledge of human behaviour, relationship systems and social issues and the ability to address social needs using appropriate social auxiliary work methods and techniques.  The skills to work as a team member and as a provider of support services to the social work team.The successful completion of the qualification will enable the learner to:  Register with the SA Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Auxiliary Worker in terms of section 18 of the Social Service Professions Act, 1978 (Act 110 of 1978).  Continue learning and gain access, for example to the Bachelor of Social Work (NQF Level 7) qualification.

PURPOSE OF THE QUALIFICATION : This is an entry-level Qualification for those who want to enter the field of Education, Training and Development, specifically within the sub-field of Early Childhood Development (ECD). Many of those who will seek this Qualification are already practising within the field, but without formal recognition. This Qualification will enable recipients of this Qualification to facilitate the all-round development of young children in a manner that is sensitive to culture and individual needs (including special needs), and enable them to provide quality early childhood development services for children in a variety of contexts, including community-based services, ECD centres, at home and in institutions. In particular, recipients of this qualification will be able to:  Plan and prepare for Early Childhood Development.  Facilitate and monitor the development of babies, toddlers and young children.  Provide care and support to babies, toddlers and young children. Practitioners will generally carry out their role under supervision and with the support of designed programmes. This Qualification will provide a means for formal recognition of those who are already practising in the field, but without qualifications, as well as for those who wish to enter the field. This qualification will also provide a basis for further professional development in the higher education and training band for many experienced practitioners in the field who have had limited or difficult access to further career development opportunities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is a NQF Level 4 qualification or equivalent. 

The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Social Auxiliary Worker. This occupation assists in the provisioning of social services and support to individuals, families, groups and communities with regards to a full range of social services and related social welfare matters. These services include but are not limited to services and support relating to: emotional trauma (life skills development/emotional stress); financial stress; recreational needs; social needs and matters relating to housing (Developmental approach). A qualified learner will be able to:  Provide basic counselling and support services to individuals and families with socio-economic challenges.  Facilitate non-therapeutic (educational and support groups) groups towards achieving the f the developmental goals of the group.  Facilitate participatory development in communities to address their common socio-economic needs and to promote social justice.  Collect and collate data to inform social services interventions.

ENVIROMENTAL PRACTICE LEVEL 3 (49752)

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Learner must be competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF level 2.

This qualification is the third in a series for practitioners in the field of environmental science, environmental management and waste management. This series of qualifications will equip practitioners with the skills, knowledge and values to contribute towards the wise and effective use and management of our natural resources and ecological systems. The specific purpose of this qualification represents the skills, knowledge and understanding required by competent practitioners to:  Operate and maintain complex machinery and equipment in an environmentally responsible manner  Apply appropriate environmental principles to prevent, correct or remedy negative environmental impacts  Lead a team and work together with others to promote sound environmental practices. With this understanding, learners will be able to engage productively and responsibly in work or community-related activities in the field of environmental science, environmental management and waste management. This qualification will also serve as a basis for further learning, and will equip learners with the knowledge, skills and values to participate meaningfully in society and contribute towards developing sustainable communities. This qualification is applicable to a range of contexts within the field of environmental science, environmental management and waste management, such as local government, public and private waste management enterprises, cultural or natural heritage sites, community projects, recycling and recovery of resources, controlling and eradication of invasive and alien species, rural development and site preparation or rehabilitation. It is also suitable for workers with environmental functions in a range of industries such as mining and chemical industry or manufacturing. The following are typical contexts in which this qualification can be assessed:  Waste management related activities, eg > Materials recovery and buy-back centres > Waste reception > Landfill operations  Water course cleaning, care and maintenance  Care of public places, open areas, cultural and natural heritage sites  Maintenance of parks and sports fields  Community projects and job creation schemes relating to environmental practice  General industrial and extraction, ie activities with an environmental care or improvement focus.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Communication Skills at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.  Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3. No person with a child abuse record; history of violent crimes; or substance abuse record; should be considered for this qualification.

This Qualification is an entry-level qualification for those who want to enter the field of Child & Youth Care Work (C&YCW) as a potential career. It builds on practical experience and community-based learning, and equips people for their role as an auxiliary child and youth care worker. As such the Qualification will also be valuable for those who may have been practising within the field, but without formal recognition. In particular, this Qualification will be useful for:  Auxiliary child and youth care workers.  Persons who work in related fields such as social workers, pastoral counsellors, where knowledge and skill of C&YCW is an advantage. Recipients of this Qualification will be able to:  Perform clearly defined tasks and activities which contribute to holistic care and development of the young person.  Develop themselves purposefully, professionally and as a resource for C&YCW.  Demonstrate knowledge of and work in ways that are consistent with the ethics of the field and workplace.  Demonstrate understanding of on-line and consultative supervision and their role in the provision of care and own personal development.  Describe and uphold the rights of young people, and promote these in their practice.  Solve common problems within familiar contexts: > Adjust an application of a common solution within relevant parameters to meet the needs of small changes in the problem or operating context. > Motivate the change using relevant evidence. ENTRY REQUIREMENT 

Computer Literacy at NQF Level 3 is strongly recommended.

This Qualification is for any individual who is, or wishes to be, involved in Ancillary Health Care services. A learner who has achieved this qualification will integrate a range of awareness and competences to practice the roles of health promoter, health provider and health networker within a community development context. Learners working towards this Qualification will find that the acquisition of competence in the Unit Standards, which make up the Qualification, will add value to their work performance. This Qualification is intended to enhance the provision of entry-level service within the field of health care within all sectors. Learners who complete this qualification will have better self and social awareness and will possess a range of thinking and problem solving skills. In addition, they will possess the competence required to perform community health functions in a complex developing world context. They will have the skills required for employment by a range of government and social sector employers, will be in possession of a further education and training certificate and will be eligible for certain credit recognition in various higher education health qualifications. Qualified learners in this field will provide a service that will assist communities to better manage their own health and wellness. They will have the skills to work as team members and as providers of support services within a multidisciplinary health care team. This Qualification is for any individual who is, or wishes to be, involved in Ancillary Health Care services. A learner who has achieved this qualification will integrate a range of basic awareness and competences to perform the roles of health promoter, assistant or health provider and assist the health networker within a community development context. The Qualification will facilitate access to and mobility and progression within education and training for learners who were previously disadvantaged or who were unable to complete their schooling and were therefore denied access to Further Education and Training. It will also assist those who have worked in this field for many years, but have no formal recognition of knowledge and skills that they have acquired non-formally but would like to achieve this recognition through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and/or formal study. Learners who complete this Qualification will have better self and social awareness and will possess a wider range of skills to better understand and function in the ancillary health care field in various community contexts. Learners successfully completing this Qualification will provide a service that will assist communities to better manage their own health and wellness. They will have the skills to support team members and assist in the provision of support services within a multi-disciplinary health care team. Practitioners will generally carry out their roles within the context of the client's home, a community care centre and/or the broader community. The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Child and Youth Care Worker. A Child and Youth Care Worker contributes to the provision of holistic therapeutic care, and supports the development of children and youth in order to ensure the appropriate development of the individuals through the application of professional life space interventions. A qualified learner will be able to:  Provide holistic, basic and developmental care for orphaned, vulnerable and at risk children and youth.  Apply behaviour management and support techniques in routine child and youth care contexts.  Implement life space work and life space counselling.  Maintain planned environments in child and youth care work.  Participate in developmental assessment of children and youth.  Assist with the implementation of programmes and activities to deal with identified needs.  Advocate for the rights of children and youth.  Undertake basic Child and Youth care administration.

COUNSELLING NQF LEVEL 4( 49256)

The FETC: Counselling Qualification has been developed to meet the needs of learners in a variety of counselling contexts. It should develop learners who know their scope of practice, behave ethically in a counselling context, conform to minimum standards, know when to refer clients and understand the psychological consequences for clients if counsellors are inadequately trained or overstep their scope of practice. It is a generic Qualification that is intended for community or workplace-based counsellors who work in structured and supervised environments including, but not limited to private and government Institutions, schools, Non-Governmental Organisations including Faith Based, Community Based and Not-for-Profit Organisations, the South African Police Service, Counselling Call Centres, Hospitals, Clinics and Support Agencies, Sports Centres, Education and Training facilities, Health and Emergency services and facilities. In this Qualification, "Scope of Practice" refers to the boundaries within which the counsellor operates without referral as defined by own work context. The Qualification is intended to meet the needs of a wide variety of work roles including, but not limited to social auxiliary workers, traditional healers, trauma counsellors, HIV/AIDS counsellors, career counsellors and health and wellness practitioners.
